During the colder months, you might notice something that may initially seem concerning—small cracks or shrinkage on the sides of the wax in the jar. This is a completely normal phenomenon caused by the wax reacting to low temperatures during transit.
Why Does This Happen?
Natural coconut wax, unlike paraffin or other synthetic blends, tends to contract slightly when exposed to cold temperatures. As the wax shrinks, tiny cracks can appear along the sides of the jar. While this might look unusual, it does not affect the candle’s burning performance, scent throw, or overall aesthetics once lit.
Can This Happen After Burning the Candle?
Yes, this can also happen after you burn your candle. If the wax cools too quickly in a cold environment, it may contract and develop small cracks on the surface or sides. This is especially common during winter months or in cooler rooms. Rest assured, these cracks are purely cosmetic and do not compromise the quality or safety of your candle.
Why Don’t We Use Additives?
To prevent such cracking, some manufacturers add paraffin or other synthetic materials to their wax blends.
